IN THE SHADE OF THE PEAKS

ICICLE IS DELIGHTED TO WELCOME ARTIST JONAS DELHAYE, WINNER OF THE 2019 YISHU 8 PRIZE, TO OFFER HIS INTERPRETATION OF ICICLE’s 2023 THEME, THE TREE, WHICH RESONATES PERFECTLY WITH HIS OWN ARTISTIC UNIVERSE.

35 AVENUE GEORGE V, PARIS 8
2 FEBRUARY – 25 FEBRUARY 2023

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Jonas Delhaye’s artistic approach is an exercise in time and attention that is defined in a hybrid form where the work and the photographic image belong to the crossroads of sculpture and performance. His creation arises from the immersion of the body in space, from the experience of time and testifies to the enhancement of a presence in the world.

For the exhibition “In the shade of the peaks” at the ICICLE’s Cultural Space, Jonas Delhaye presents a series of works all produced in situ in parks and forests crossed during his travels in France, China and Canada.

JONAS DELHAYE

Jonas Delhaye, born in 1988, is a graduate of the European School of Art in Brittany (EESAB). His work, at the crossroads of sculpture, photography and performance, comes from the encounter with the landscape.

He exhibited at the Nuit Blanche de Mayenne in 2015 and transformed the Collège des Bernardins into a monumental photographic space in 2018. He was a finalist for the Discovery Prize, Palais de Tokyo, in 2014 and winner of the Yishu 8 Prize, in 2019. He is represented by Galerie Maubert. In 2021, Jonas Delhaye was in residence at the CIAP (International Centre for Art and Landscape) on the Island of Vassivière to reflect on our apprehension of the night sky and the protection of biodiversity. He participated in the group exhibition Bons baisers de Pékin at the National Museum of Asian Arts Guimet.

YISHU 8

For ten years, Yishu 8 has been a unique creation platform where French and Chinese cultures come together around young artists that complete several months of residency in Beijing or in Paris.

“Jonas Delhaye’s installation allows us to stroll away from our furious and insatiable world which denies the strength of “rest”. It does not invite us to slow down, but to a walk through different times, enforced by a certain observation of nature and in particular that of trees. This “rest” therefore does not mean “doing nothing”, but rather adjusting to the actions of a nature which has its own rhythms and its own system of effectuation. Following the trees, without representing them, obeying them with skill and ingenuity, it is in this subtle expectation that the work of the artist is created.”
Christine Cayol, founder of Yishu 8 association
