MAKE THE BEST USE OF EVERYTHING

Each season since 2019, ICICLE develops and presents a “NATURAL WAY“ capsule collection. This is a ‘think further‘ capsule, exploring eco-conscious production techniques without being driven by commercial considerations. Season after season, ICICLE pursues breakthrough in thoughtful product development, design, and manufacturing. This ongoing exploration aims at creating garments through the most natural means possible. The most promising innovations developed for NATURAL WAY are then adopted in the main collections.

For Autumn / Winter 2023, the NATURAL WAY collection draws inspiration from an ancient Chinese saying that urges “to make the best use of everything“. Traditional Chinese culture strives to make full-use of limited resources, cherishing what nature offers by reusing and recycling, thus limiting waste. This pragmatic attitude of “nothing is useless“ has enabled China to support a large population with limited resources for a long time. It is reflected in this capsule collection, crafted from recycled cashmere and dead stock fabrics.

A CIRCULAR ECOSYSTEM

Since its beginnings, ICICLE is dedicated to minimise its environmental footprint, and to work at ‘thoughtful making‘. The NATURAL WAY collection reflects a circular vision of fashion. It reuses materials already available in ICICLE’s workshops: dead stock fabrics and offcuts.

The patterns for ICICLE’s double face cashmere coats are thoughtfully placed to limit offcuts. Those however generated are repurposed through an innovative technique. Once sorted, they are shredded, washed out, and blended with wool fibres to be transformed into recycled cashmere. Several layers are then put together, to create warm and fluffy padding. In this way, ICICLE ensures that no materials that could be repurposed, reused or recycled are wasted.

A limited-edition collection crafted from limited materials, the NATURAL WAY capsule unveils coats, dresses, jumpers, and trousers in undyed or plant-dyed silk, cashmere, and wool. It applies Chinese notions of layering up to combat the season. Pieces offer myriad ways of wearing, in a spirit of a functional and modular wardrobe with comfortable loose cuts.
