YANN LACROIX I SHANGHAI CULTURAL SPACE

A LANDSCAPE BEYOND

EXHIBITION | 31 OCTOBER – 6 DECEMBER 2026

ICICLE Cultural Space Shanghai presents A Landscape Beyond, the first solo exhibition in China by French artist Yann Lacroix, curated by Myriam Kryger. Exploring landscape as both a physical and imagined space, the exhibition brings together paintings that question our relationship with nature, memory and the passage of time. Drawing on travel memories, collected images and the history of painting, Yann Lacroix creates dreamlike landscapes where lush vegetation intertwines with deserted architecture. Gardens, ruins and distant horizons emerge within compositions suspended between reality and imagination. Beneath their apparent serenity, these landscapes reveal a subtle tension between the beauty of nature and the traces of human intervention. Through successive layers, transparencies and erasures, the artist constructs paintings in which different images and temporalities coexist. His meticulous approach to oil painting allows forms to emerge and disappear, evoking the gradual transformation of places and the persistence of memory. Between abundance and desolation, his works invite the viewer to explore worlds that feel both familiar and inaccessible.

“Between abundance and desolation, splendour and decay, between the cold beauty of stone structures and the organic proliferation of living forms, Yann Lacroix’s paintings exert a strange fascination.” Myriam Kryger, Exhibition Curator
