FÉLIX DESCHAMPS MAK I SHANGHAI CULTURAL SPACE

MY FRIENDS

EXHIBITION I SEPTEMBER 20 – NOVEMBER 2, 2025

The ICICLE Cultural Space in Shanghai presents My Friends, Félix Deschamps Mak's first solo exhibition in China. From the façade of the central ICCF Garden building, transformed into an imaginary circus opening onto the street, to the interior spaces displaying oils and watercolors, the exhibition presents itself as a journey through which parades an unusual procession of human and animal figures.

For Félix Deschamps Mak, painting is not a matter of narration, much less of explanation, but of apparitions. It emphasizes the power of the moment, carried by an assertive theatricality: frontality, marked contrasts, a taste for masks and costumes. Standing out against vibrant backgrounds, devoid of any narrative clues, his figures inhabit a purely pictorial space, which intensifies their presence. The discrepancy between the excess of color and detail, the theatrical extravagance of the costumes, and this impression of unreality reinforces the ambiguity of the works.
